I won’t lie, I love a good nerf war. I remember spending entire weekends having nerf gun fights with friends while our parents hung out. They are some of my best memories! So much so that I wanted to recreate them with my own kids. So my husband and I often bring out the nerf guns for an exhausting nerf war battle! In fact I think we have more fun than the kids, or at least my husband does for sure!

In our first battle I made a quick makeshift sign that I put on the front door for the kids when they got home. It simply told them to grab a gun and come find us. It was a fun surprise for them to see after getting of the school bus!

But for future battles I knew I had to have something more in tune with the theme, so of course a new printable was required! (Why yes.. there is a theme in most of my post where life leads to printables haha).

Great for a Nerf party

Beyond just having a nerf fight at home these are great for birthday parties! What kid doesn’t want a birthday party with nerf guns? Heck i’d say even the adults would get in on it!

These printable nerf signs are great for your next birthday bash. You’ll want to purchase enough nerf guns for your party guests (I like these cheap ones for bigger crowds) and set up your signs for each station around the battle area.

How to have a nerf war

There are so many ways you can create your own nerf war at home or at your party, but this is how we often play to make sure it’s safe for the kids (no one wants a black eye) and fun for everyone!

Basic battle rules:

• No head shots
• Only shoot players with guns
• No close range shots
• No hogging ammo

Game setup

You’ll want to setup your ammo and equipment together for everyone to grab before the game starts. Since we do these games often it’s great to just throw them in a plastic bin and set that up for the game and storage after! This would also be a good place to set up your Battle Rules sign and “Welcome to the battle zone” sign to get the game started.

After you have the equipment ready you’ll want to setup designated zones. You don’t have to use every sign here but some are great to setup stations for refilling ammo, taking a break or practicing shots for the novice player. Make sure these zones are separate from the main play area.

Battle time

Once everything is set up and everyone has their equipment it’s time to battle! You can set a time limit and just have an all out war with the last man standing to win. This is our favorite play by having no winner at all, because truthfully the kids will be having so much fun playing they won’t even care if there is a winner!

But if you prefer a game where there’s a clear winner you can try some of the following:

• Split up into two teams and establish a base. Set up barriers at your base (cushions, chairs, whatever else you can find) and try to defend it. When someone is shot they’re out of the game and the last team standing wins.
• Split up into teams and play capture the flag. Set up barriers like above and find an item to be the “flag” to defend. Each team defends their flag and when someone is shot they’re out. The first team to get the other teams flag wins.
